Bringing the warmth of Indonesian gifting culture to the loyalty journey.

Gifting is part of everyday culture in Indonesia. From Eid celebrations to birthdays and personal milestones, hampers have become a simple way people express care for one another.

As a brand centered around togetherness, McDonald’s wanted to be part of those moments. Through MyM Rewards, we saw an opportunity to bring that behavior into the loyalty journey.

CHALLENGE

Shifting the loyalty experience from transactional into a shared connection.

MyM Rewards gave members a simple way to collect and redeem points, but the experience was still largely transactional, focused on earning rewards for personal use.

We were challenged to design a gifting flow that felt intentional and seamless, while encouraging members to see loyalty points as something worth sharing with others.

GIFTING FEATURE

Turning individual rewards as a shared act of joy.

Introducing Hampers Mekdi “Bagi Rasa Bagi Ceria”, a gifting feature inside the McDonald’s Indonesia app that allows MyM Rewards members to exchange points for curated hampers bundles and send them directly to friends, family, or colleagues.

We approached loyalty differently by turning point redemption into a more thoughtful gifting journey, transforming loyalty points from an individual reward into something members could actively share with others.

Members can browse available hampers, personalize a digital gift card, and share it directly through the app or messaging platforms. Point ranges were designed to stay accessible while still making every gift feel intentional.

CUSTOMIZATION EXPERIENCE

Designing a personalized point of connection that brings people closer.

To make the experience feel worth giving, we placed a customizable digital gift card at the center of the journey. The feature became a point of connection between giver and receiver, rather than just a supporting element.

We designed the experience around two simple journeys: sending and receiving. For senders, members can choose a gift card design, write a personal message, and send it directly to the recipient before any redemption steps happen.

For receivers, we kept the claiming process frictionless. No account creation, app download, or loyalty sign-up was required. A single link allows recipients to claim their hampers at McDonald’s or partner locations immediately.
